May 6, 2010- Gay Lea foods campaign for social responsibility

Gay Lea Foods , Ontario's largest dairy co-op, has  launched a new corporate social responsibility website devoted to its support for international co-operative development projects.  
The website, www.genuinenotjustgenerous.com, is the latest development in the the "genuine not just generous" campaign Gay Lea has been featuring on its milk tankers for several months.  The theme of the campaign is "The world is our community; Ontario is our home".

Michael Ableman gave a talk as Earth Week was winding down on April 25, in both Tofino and Ucluelet, on the subject of island food security and sustainability.

Louis Grenier is past Executive Director of the Conseil de la coopération de l’Ontario (CCO), an organization representing Francophone co-operatives across Ontario. The CCO’s mission is to help develop the Social Economy in Francophone communities by supporting co-operatives. It achieves this mission by helping co-operatives to work together, by promoting the interests of Francophone cooperatives and by supporting their development.

“A wonderful starting point for the potential of a vibrant new industry in our community,” is how Carmen Rockwell-Hoover describes a recently announced Co-operative Development Initiative program grant.
Rockwell-Hoover is co-ordinating a study conducted by Greenheart Herbal Society to determine the viability of a herb growers’ co-operative in the Creston Valley.

The Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources ministry received a bill from B.C. Hydro for five nights Minister Blair Lekstrom spent in a Vancouver hotel during the 2010 Winter Olympics, but not until nine days after The Tyee asked why the Crown corporation was paying for the minister's stay.
