Regina's Core of the future: Action plan looks at ways to enhance Regina's inner city
The proposed future of Regina's Core neighbourhood is mapped out in a recently released document. The Core Neighbourhood Sustainability Action Plan is a 93-page document that breaks down the positive and negative aspects of the community and presents strategies for remedying problems and building on strengths. "It's about making the neighbourhood better for the people who live there," said Glen Trafford, board chairman for the Core Community Association. The plan presents eight broad-ranging strategies: Strengthen resident engagement and build neighbourhood capacity; support community economic development and build strong connections with institutions; establish and implement a long-term, sustainable housing strategy; enhance food security and provide access to quality food; improve safety and reduce crime; invest in community identity by building on arts, culture and heritage assets; green the core; and create beautiful and vibrant streets.
