Résumé

This research inquiry explored one of the more controversial aspects of social action politics--the impacts of drug companies funding nonprofit healthcare groups. The research focus emerged from my personal experiences as both a cancer survivor/advocate and a board member of a nonprofit healthcare organization. The intent of this study was to recognize the integrity of my own and others experiences, relative to the research issues; to help clarify some of the controversial issues related to funding in the nonprofit sector; to explore emerging trends in the complex interrelationships and interdependencies at work in the system; and to identify the values and behaviors (if any) that might support ethical funding relationships, in response to the following question: How do non-profit healthcare organizations that receive funding from pharmaceutical companies describe the impacts of these relationships?
